Horses come with costs. Spending can be avoided by providing a baseline level of care. Unfortunately, the bodies and minds of horses arriving at SHEW are often affected by starvation, parasites, neglect, and lack of humane handling and training. As a result, they require medical attention prior to rehabilitation and often need ongoing medication to manage chronic issues. Thankfully, our volunteers offset countless dollars each year by providing routine daily care at zero cost.
On average, a SHEW horse is at our facility for 14 months prior to re-homing. During this time they receive well over 250 hours of handling and training with our volunteer trainers. When needed, we employ trainers to ensure the best outcome. All of this is critical to their long-term success and placement in a loving home.
For each horse or Pony that SHEW saves, the basic costs for healthcare are below. Please consider becoming one of our monthly donors to help cover these costs!
Basic Vet Wellness Visit, Vaccinations, and De-Working: $630 per horse or pony
Basic Annual Dental Care: $100
